Early Years Foundation Stage

We consider the Unique Child together with positive relationships and our enabling environment provides rich learning and development. These themes are underpinned in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

We carefully plan our curriculum around the three prime areas of learning and development, supported by the four specific areas of learning and development and the Characteristics of Effective Learning, as detailed in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The prime areas are:

  1. Personal, social and emotional development
  2. Physical development
  3. Communication and language

The specific areas are:

  1. Literacy
  2. Mathematics
  3. Understanding the World
  4. Expressive Arts and Design

The Characteristics of Effective Learning are:

  1. Play and exploring- Engagement
  2. Active learning- Motivation
  3. Creating and thinking critically

These three areas of learning help us as practitioners to plan the learning environment, activities and experiences and provides a framework towards the early learning goals which establish expectations for most children to reach by the end of the Foundation stage.

Our aim is to foster self-control, independence and self-discipline and to encourage thoughtful and helpful behaviour.

Children are encouraged to share and interact with one another. We improve development and confidence through encouragement and confidence building. Children should enjoy being children and have fun learning.
