Communication with Parents
When your child starts at the pre-school they will be assigned a key person; a member of staff who will be responsible for your child’s individual needs.
Your child’s key person, along with the other members of staff, will monitor your child’s progress and record their development.
The key person also works with parents to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their full potential.
All teachers work closely, and communicate with each other to ensure all children are supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential through observation, assessment and thoughtful planning at every session. We encourage parents and carers to support their child’s learning at home through good communication.
We have various methods of communicating with our parents and carers to ensure that everybody is fully informed about the progress of their child and the activities of the nursery.
Parents can request to to speak with staff on a daily basis or arrange a more convenient time to talk, either before or after a session.
Parents are encouraged to look at children’s work at the end of each session, in addition to this there is a board (just inside the entrance) which details some of the other activities children have taken part in daily. This enables parents to have an insight into their child’s day to discuss with them.
If parents are unable to access nursery sessions, practitioners provide written information with some of the activities their child has joined in with to enable those parents an overview of the day.
Child’s progress reports:
- SETTLING IN REPORT- completed during the first half term of the child starting
- PROGRESS REPORT- issued the term after starting, then every second term after this
- TWO YEAR OLD PROGRESS REPORT- for children who start before their 3rd birthday
- TRANSITION DOCUMENT- to inform both parents and school of detailed learning and progress
Parents discussions are held to deliver the written reports. However, the teachers are always willing to talk to parents about progress and any other issues arising.
Individual tracker document:
LEARNING JOURNEY book: Each child also has their own LEARNING JOURNEY detailing their time with us. It contains examples of their work, photos of the child at work and play and a copy of each written report.
Noticeboards are used to display current notices and information regarding the general activities of the pre-school.
Newsletters and our facebook page are issued to provide current news, reminders, dates for diaries, updates of social activities and details of meetings.
We carry out an annual survey to obtain feedback from our parents regarding all aspects of the pre-school including teaching, fundraising and social provision. All results are posted on the noticeboard and any issues highlighted are discussed and monitored via the regular newsletters.
